Chapter 8 Reflection Questions
- This chapter begins and ends with a quotation from Evans (2002), “Bringing together Teacher and Queer is a complicated endeavor. It is public and private, in an arena in which constructions of what is public and private continually shift and change” (p. 179). In what ways are Teacher and Queer complicated in your current position? How do you negotiate your gender and sexual orientation within the public sector?
- Which curricular entry points presented in this chapter seem most realistic for the context you work in? What activities and resources are you most likely to use? Why? Which activities are inappropriate or irrelevant for you to use? Why?
- How would you justify your stance to include queer issues in your curriculum with a reluctant teacher candidate?
